Management in the Next Society, by Peter Drucker

This book is a compilation of several articles written by Drucker between the late 90’s and the beginning of the present century. The book is highly recommended for those interested in the analysis of trends in society and management.
Drucker refers to topics such as the decrease in the birth rate; the declination of the industry and the rise of the services sector, in terms of wealth and job creation; the growth of outsourcing; and the changes in the way of managing corporations.
Besides, Drucker analyzes and compares the inventions and revolutions of the past (the Industrial Revolution, the train, the printing press), with those of the present (the Information and Knowledge Revolution, the arrival of the Internet). He also explains the consequences of those innovations for business and society in each time.
Other issues discussed are innovation, entrepreneurship, the third sector of the economy, and work specialization.
Drucker has a global perspective, but he focuses on certain countries, specially USA, England, Germany, South Korea, Japan, and China.
In summary, a very interesting book.
